New York at Christmas

Lately I’ve really been trying to prioritize my life in terms of putting the really important things first: family, friends, my health to name a few.  I was sharing this sentiment with a girlfriend of mine last week and lamented that I hadn’t yet seen my close girlfriend’s baby (and he is 10 months old!) because life and schedules didn’t permit.  Which is crap because they live in Long Island and Lord knows that we’ve traveled much farther than that during the past year.  It really was a matter of choices.  I mentioned this to Hubby and he said: “why don’t we just go this weekend?” Good question! {Why is everything so black and white for men?} And so we did.  On Friday I booked our hotel and happily called my friend to let her know we were coming to visit.  She’s a doctor and had to work all day Saturday and be on-call Saturday night, so we wouldn’t be able to visit her until Sunday.  That left an entire evening after our drive from Maryland to New York for the Fergies to hit Manhattan…

There’s nothing like New York City at Christmastime.  The lights, the energy, the decorations – it’s magical.  We spent most of Saturday evening enjoying The Holiday Shops at Bryant Park (= AWESOME) and then popped over to Macy’s to see Santa.  It was so cold that we ended up doing a drive-by of the Rockerfeller Center tree.  After a delicious breakfast in Tribeca on Sunday at Kitchenette, our visit with my friend’s family was icing on the cake. We had an awesome spur-of-the-moment weekend! Here’s to putting family and friends first in 2011.

Which means I owe Giggles a trip to the American Girl store.

  1. I’m really glad that I read this post because like you I have yet to see my bff’s son and he’s already one. Not to mention she’s Moo’s godmother. I’m not as close to her as you were to your friend (I’m in Charlotte and she’s in Philly), but still I feel like I could have been hopped a plane or train by now and gone to see them. I had a long talk with her yesterday and we are going to do better and take turns visiting each other every couple of months.
