New Blog Series- Join Me!

Have you ever thought about running a 5k or a  half-marathon?

The first time I decided to run one I had to Google exactly how many miles a half-marathon involved.  My initial reaction was to chuckle when I realized that it was two miles further than my eleven mile drive to work — just 13.1 miles.  Then I became doubtful.   Yikes- 13.1 miles?!! Seemed impossible.  I was excited and nervous.

Could I do it? Why do it? How would I do it?  I’d never run more than three or four miles at one time, ever, and that was back in 1999 when I was in college.  Yet last April, at 34  years old, I managed to run 13.1 miles.  I ran the More Half-Marathon and blogged about my journey as a More.com contributer and for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign.  I used social media to make me accountable, meet other running moms/women, and learn from them.

So how did I answer those three questions and get it done?

Join me on Sundays at my personal blog, JusticeJonesie.com,  as I answer these questions and more.  We’ll talk about getting started running or running your next race.   And, if you are running a 5k or a half we can motivate each other and get it done!  (I know I still need that accountability and motivation!) Along the way, I’ll introduce you to some of my favorite social media runners, blogs, and sites that I use as a resource.

See you there!

  1. Why do I feel like you wrote this for me? How did you know this thought crosses my mind often, but I have yet to act on it? Hmmmm, guess I might have to just check out your journey and hopefully be inspired to get it done. :)

  2. Because I did write it for you! :) Hope you decide to give it a try and join me, you’ll be glad you did. Consider starting with a 5k? It takes less training and is great for first time runners. If you already are physically active you could probably go right into a 10k training program.

  3. I’d love to run especially if I have my friends and family with me…

  5. Cool! I know that it takes a lot of efforts to come up to this level. It used to take me at least 6 months to come up to a level where I could run 10 kms without stopping in 1h10m.

  10. In my experience it is much better to be surrounded with people with the same goal, this way I can be motivated. It would be great to hear stories or inspirational words from your experience runners. It is about time I start with what I have been planning for some time.

  20. This is a great sign of courage and confidence.
13 miles isn’t that difficult if you prepare, I’ve run more than that feeling great because I’ve had enough mental and physical preparation and I had way too many difficulties in less distances because I was underprepared.
